MOST LOVED | WHISK UNTIL SWEET

Happy hump day! It’s time to show some appreciation to one of our most loved vendors. Meet the #GirlBoss behind Whisk Until Sweet, Heather! She's a native Texan with a major sweet tooth! Heather's style is modern, simple, and elegant. All of her beautiful cakes feature fresh and tasty flavors. The intricacies in the flavors are so delightful they forever leave a remembered taste in your mouth!

1. Five words or a five word sentence that would describe you or your company best?

Edgy, Refined, Creative, Whimsical, Rustic.

2. What was the inspiration behind the name "Whisk until Sweet"? So catchy!

The name "Whisk until Sweet" was inspired by a simple line in a cookbook. I knew I wanted my company name to be simple but to the effect of whisk, stir, mix, etc. So when I saw it, it was perfect!

3. What fueled your passion towards entrepreneurship?

I was working in the marking industry prior to Whisk until Sweet. That environment didn't allow me to be creative and I felt that I was always stepping on others toes. It was a very dictated industry. That's when I saved my money, attended culinary school in Canada, and started Whisk until Sweet in 2011 by myself. Fast forward 5 years... I enjoy being my own boss! It's very fulfilling and flexible. Being my own boss is also pretty cool. I can be creative without stepping on others toes and enjoy what I do, I love it!

4. What was or has been your favorite project thus far?

I did a photo shoot with Grit + Gold at Brik in Fort Wort. I love it because it was rustic, free reign, and actually focused on the cake; which is a rare occasion. Being creative and given free reign of what I wanted to do as a #CakeBoss really paid off, allowing me to really show who I am. Hard work pays off!

5. What would be your dream project or client, if you had the choice?

Wow! That's a hard one... I would definitely choose my Grandma. She instilled the love of baking in me! She passed when I was 10 years old. She was a cookie girl! I would bake her either snicker doodle or chocolate chip cookies. Not only was my Grandma amazing but so was her baking.

6. What is the next big step for Whisk until Sweet?

First and foremost, I am so thankful for my 1st year being completely booked! I'm just going with the flow for now. One long term goal would be to have a shop in Dallas, but maybe not until the next five years.

7. What would be your advice for anyone interested in becoming their own boss?

My best advice would be to stick to a routine. It sounds simple but it really isn't. When it's only you, it's much harder making a living. Five business goals and two personal goals a day helps keep me focused. Goals in which of what needs to happen. I also would suggest finding a community or professional group of friends. My profession and working for myself can sometimes be isolating. Any outlet is refreshing!

Thanks so much for telling us your story Heather! We're so incredibly excited to be working with Heather again for our wedding this weekend!

MOST LOVED | A SEA OF LOVE

Capturing beautifully curated images of your wedding that tell a story of love and laughter is always the goal of Morgan Chidsey at A Sea of Love. With her undeniable passion for photography and her exquisite attention to detail, Morgan couples her love of fashion with her adoration of love itself to bring you a collection of images that prove to be breathtaking time and time again. Celebrate Colorfully has worked with A Sea of Love on both styled shoots and weddings and we continue to obsess over their work! We recently had the chance to sneak a moment with Morgan to bring you behind-the-scenes scoop on the lovely lady behind the camera!

A_Sea_of_Love.jpg

What are five words to describe your business and/or style?

Truthful, Romantic, Moody, Emotional, Bliss

How did you get into the industry?

I decided in 2010 to leave business school and on a whim chose to go to Books Institute for advertising photography, the best decision I have ever made! After graduating, I still wanted a full-time job in the industry, but after 1 year as a photographer for an e-commerce website, I quickly realized being freelance was the path I needed to be on in order to be more fulfilled. I have now owned my own company for a little over 2 years, and I am so fortunate that I am able to capture my two favorite things, fashion + love!

What would be your dream destination assignment?

Shooting a look-book or editorial for a major brand whose aesthetic is naturally my own as well. We would be shooting at a sick on-location spot, one with amazing textures and vantage points; along-side a dream team that flows beautifully with the most incredible muse, probably pale, freckled, and fearless..in Ireland.

What gives you ideas and inspiration to create such beautiful images and stories?

With the love stories, it is the lovers themselves.  I really try and feed off the couple's vibe and try to capture their love.  I think it is so so special for a couple to be able to see just how truly beautiful and inspiring their love is... the looks, the smiles, and hugs, and all of the kisses! All the feels!

What is one of your proudest moments thus far for yourself and/or A Sea of Love as a whole?

My proudest moment for A Sea of Love is not just a single achievement. I honestly feel the most proud in this very moment.  I am so lucky to now work and capture along side my love, Blake, and with this dynamic things are falling into place in a way I never even imagined.  We are connecting with more and more couples whose style and aesthetic effortlessly fit our own and we are able to travel around the country to celebrate and capture love.  I feel like I need to be pinched all the time and I just hope this continues on.

What is a goal that you have yet to achieve? Along the same lines, where would you like to see yourself in 5 years?

I have yet to document an elopement! As I am a girl who does not want a wedding herself and just wants to be married to the love of my life. I would love love to be apart of another couple's intimate day.. just the two of them, surrounded by naturing, sharing their vows, their love.. ah! <3  In five years I envision us back in California where my photography dreams all began, just continuing on with all we have now and being joyous!

Favorite guilty pleasure?

I watch some pretty silly shows...Keeping up with the Kardashians, Dance Moms, WAGS... I know..The Bachelor and The Bachelorette...mindless stuff at the bottom of the screen while I am editing is just needed!

From moody look-books to organically romantic engagement sessions, Morgan has the talent, knowledge and eye to capture it all. Take a moment to browse through just some of our recent collaborations with A Sea of Love; Taylor + Collin, Paul Bunyon Inspired Shoot, and Bethany + Matt. Follow their stunning Instagram page to keep up with their new work! We know that you will absolutely fall in love one of our most loved photographers!

1. What are five words to describe your business?

Fun, Creative, Delicious, Unique, Savory

2. How did Delicious Cakes come to be?

Ruthie (co-owner) works for Bridal Shows Inc. and in 2003 one of her clients who owned Delicious Cakes wanted to retire. At the time, Ruthie, her husband Butch, and their four beautiful girls were thinking about purchasing Delicious Cakes because of how it would be a great way for their girls to learn something about business and work ethics. In March of 2003, they sealed the deal and put Ruthie in charge and three of the four girls to work. Miranda, the oldest, took on the role of manager, Abigale, the second, had the responsibility of getting everything organized and setting up customer service policies and Katherine, the youngest and most artistic, took on the role of meeting with brides and helping them design the cake of their dreams and also started working in the kitchen decorating cakes. Butch was working for Trane air conditioning at the time and after piling up well over 2,000,000 miles on airplanes, he retired from Trane. He then realized he too had a talent for design and started sitting with brides and helping them design cakes and loved being able to spend his evenings at home with his family. Fast forward 13 years…Ruthie and Butch still own the bakery and have managed to put together an awesome staff that share the same values and commitment.

3. How does Delicious Cakes stand apart from other cake bakeries?

Delicious Cakes has been in business for over 25 years and has established a wonderful reputation around the metroplex. With somewhere around 600 – 700 wedding cakes a year, 8000 followers on Facebook, and a passion for their work, the team at Delicious Cakes is one of a kind! As quoted from owner Butch, “I often tell people; “What makes our bakery stand out is LOVE”.  Our staff is like family and we love each and every one of them. One of our Baker’s secret ingredients is LOVE and that’s what makes the cakes so delicious. We love all of the brides that come to us and we try to make their experience with us enjoyable. We also have some specialty flavors that set us apart. They are the amoretto and toasted almond cake, chocolate liqueur, raspberry liqueur, kalua mocha and pink champagne ...and what makes them unique is the fact we use real booze in the recipes.”

4. What is your most popular cake?

The Princess Cake, which is a moist vanilla cake made with the egg yolk to make it rich and creamy.  With 23 wonderful flavors to offer, this one sells twice as much as the others!  “Styles change every year.” said Butch. “Years ago, the meringue look finish was popular, last year it was horizontal spatula lines and this year the naked cake is popular.  Of course being in the Dallas market “BLING – BLING & more BLING” is always in season.”

5. What is a fun fact about your business?

“I really like to refer to us as a team. We all work and play with each other really well.  Our team is diverse and can pitch in whenever any one of us needs help.  A fun fact about our team is that we tease each other all day long and just have a good time at work!” – Butch.

And the cherry on top…Delicious Cakes has been voted the “Best Of” from both The Knot and Wedding Wire! They also regularly bake model cakes for Brides of North Texas photoshoots and as mentioned above, were voted one of the 50 best wedding cake bakeries in America from Daily Meal! Now that’s delicious!

A special thank you to Butch for taking the time to share the story of Delicious Cakes with us! As you all know, Celebrate Colorfully has a major crush on wedding flowers and we especially love the wedding cakes featured in this post with their attention to detail and floral inspiration! We hope that we awakened your sweet tooth and you'll think about Delicious Cakes next time you need a cake!

Vendor Highlight | Wiler Photography

Happy hump day! We hope all of your summers are going well, ours is about to get busy busy busy with exciting new adventures and we sure can’t wait!

Today, I'd like to introduce you to Nadia from Wiler Photography! This girl and her husband, Luke, are truly so caring and always go full out to make sure the bride and grooms have the best photos and videos to remember such a special day.

We met Nadia through a friend and can’t believe how far her and Luke have come, from starting as a self-taught photographer and videographer to becoming an outstanding duo in the industry! Get to know them a little bit more below!

1. What are five words (or a 5 word sentence) that would describe yourselves and/or your company the best?

Always Doing More Than Expected!

Wiler_Photography_Vendor_Highlight.jpg

2. How did Wiler Photography come to be? Who is Wiler Photography?

We are a husband (Luke) and wife (Nadia) team known as The Wiler’s. We fell into the stress of planning our own wedding and along the way we had to meet with vendors of all types. It was the time for us to meet with wedding photographers and the process was one of the most challenging for us. We had champagne taste on a beer budget. We noticed that the photographers we liked and styles we loved were out of our price range and some of the people we were left with didn’t seem to care as much about our wedding as we did. It was stressful to say the least. After countless days of searching we found a photographer who was affordable but also had great photos to go with the price. We met with her and she was so easy going and it felt like we were talking to a friend and not just a stranger wanting our money. We walked away from that meeting saying how nice it would have been if others were more like that.

I was so involved with what I liked and didn’t like in photography and inspired by the photographer we just met. Luke said he could see me being a great photographer because I had such strong opinions and passion for great photos. When Luke gets his mind on an idea he runs wild with it. He spent the next month researching cameras, lenses and other equipment to give me everything I needed to get started. Meanwhile, I was becoming self-taught through “YouTube University” studying and learning everything I needed to know about cameras and photography.

Before we knew it, we had purchased our first camera and I started shooting and practicing every day. We could tell I was getting really good at this. I was so in love with it. My first wedding was a friend who invited us to be guests. I asked her if she would mind if I photographed her wedding just to practice. She was more than obliged to have me. At the end of the day, I had so much fun taking pictures at her wedding that I wanted to do more. I knew I wasn’t ready to tackle a whole wedding on my own yet. I needed more experience. As fate would have it, the photographer from my own wedding had recently posted online that she was looking for someone to 2nd shoot with her. I could not have called her any faster. Somewhere between July-October I had shadowed her and worked with her almost every weekend on a wedding. I asked for more experience and I got it!

My portfolio grew so quickly and I was having so much fun that my husband decided he wanted to get in on it with me. His interest however was in video. Of course his mind was set, and for the next month he was online, vigorously researching everything he needed to know about videography. Just as myself, he needed experience. At this time, I was booking entire weddings on my own for myself. Our first bride that Luke was able to shoot video for had no idea what she was actually getting. Luke was so excited and put everything he had into making his first video. The bride was blown away! It was more than what she imagined.

Between my photography, and his now video, we knew we had a winning combination. We were hooked! We have completely devoted ourselves to our work and we let the passion and excitement drive us. Our goal since having dealt with wedding planning on our own, was to remain ourselves. We wanted to come off as a friend and be honest about everything involved with our client’s weddings. We always do more than expected, because we love what we do and we want our clients to love us too.

3. How would you describe your wedding photography styles?

I like my style to reflect my clients. It’s not about me when I am photographing a bride or groom, it’s about them. I let my clients be themselves and in the process we get some great documentary, or lifestyle, type photos. My photos tend to be brighter and crisp, and in the industry my style is considered light and airy. I love the natural beauty of the daytime and I try to draw in as much light and happiness into my work.

Wiler_Photography_Vendor_Highlight.jpg

4. What are your favorite local hangouts?

I don’t have a lot of favorite local hangouts, for me it’s more like local eatery’s. Nothing beats sipping a grapefruit mimosa, on the patio of East Hampton at the Shops of Legacy. Any place with a great patio, drink specials and delicious food is where you will likely find me.

5.     What’s your advice for the couple whose number one priority is having a fun wedding?

My advice to a couple planning their wedding is one I was given before my wedding day. Don’t get carried away by what others would like or how others would feel. If you can find a way to remember that the day is about you and your fiancé, ignore everyone else and plan for yourself. Keep what’s important to you, and don’t worry about what other people may think or feel. In the long run, you will be thankful that you pleased yourself because your day only happens one time. Nobody will cherish those memories like you will so they are yours to make.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about Nadia and Luke and a peek at their amazing work! We look forward to see all their new photos and videos from this busy summer season!

MOST LOVED | ELLIE AND ACE

HELLO LOVELY PEOPLE! We're in full spring swing over here at Celebrate Colorfully. With the expansion of our team and our full line-up of weddings over the next few weeks, we've been busier than ever!

Today I'd like to introduce you to Stephanie from Ellie and Ace Calligraphy! This girl has a heart of gold and is truly one of the sweetest people I've met in Dallas. Like most creatives, Stephanie wears many hats in life but her true passion is calligraphy. She's even sharing her love with others through her new workshops and classes.

We met Stephanie through a friend and can't stop gushing about how wonderful her work is. Just see for yourself!

1. What are five words (or a 5 word sentence) that would describe yourselves and/or your company the best?

Calligrapher | Maker | Versatile | Unexpected | Creative Passion

2. How did Ellie and Ace come to be? What got you into hand lettering?

I’ve always loved handwriting and different styles of lettering. Growing up, I would change the style of my handwriting, often emulating another style that I loved and making it my own.  My class projects always involved an element of hand lettering – even in grad school!

It wasn’t until a dear friend recommended that I check out a calligraphy class that I realized this was a skill set I possessed that was somewhat unique and extremely versatile and useful. I started taking classes locally, and was instantly hooked, doing projects mostly for friends and family in the beginning. I’m so thankful for how this unexpected creative venture of mine has evolved!

My favorite part of the calligraphy industry is working directly with clients and other vendors (like Celebrate Colorfully) to bring a creative vision to life for a vast array of life events. I am humbled by the opportunity to meet such neat people and learn about a small part of their lives through my work.

3. Any tips for a DIY bride?

Go for it | There’s so much room for creativity – let your invitation and envelopes really say something about you and your special day!

Have a plan | Practice your lettering style, size & envelope layouts on scrap paper cut to size. Play around with different sizes and styles of lettering, such as script + print or various sizes and spacing of letters to create your unique envelope. Once you’ve decided on the final “look” then use handy tools like grids, templates, or a light pad to make lettering your actual envelopes easier and quicker.

Get the right tools | Are you really into brush lettering, traditional pen and ink, or maybe even watercolor? Make sure that you’re getting the right tools to set you up for success in your lettering. I have a list of my favorite supplies on my blog and would be happy to consult with any DIY bride wanting to get started doing her own envelopes.

Embrace imperfection | Remember that each envelope you do is a unique work of art! Each of us is our own worst critic, so if you feel frustrated (which I often do!) just know that practice makes progress – not perfection. In an age of everything digital, people truly appreciate the time and heart invested in something that’s done by hand. Your guests will love your work!

4. What are your favorite local hangouts?

Matt’s Rancho Martinez – give me Bob Dip + happy hour everyday

The Village Country Club walking trail

Half Price Books – it’s dog friendly!

Fuel City – tacos + corn in a cup

Home – I’m an introvert, so I get a lot of my energy and creativity from being at home, reading books and blogs, and organizing and decorating (when I’m not working on projects for clients!)

I probably need to get out more – ha!  This list makes me realize that my life centers around my dog and Tex Mex food!

5. Tell us more about your classes!

I just recently started offering beginner’s calligraphy classes after getting quite a few requests. This was an unexpected direction, but one that has been so much fun! I’ve hosted group classes in Dallas and Sherman, and have also done a few private lessons.

My classes are essentially hands-on workshops where students can learn the basics of modern calligraphy. The classes are designed for beginner level letterers with little or no experience. You don’t even have to have pretty handwriting to give it a try.

Students get my script calligraphy “starter kit” that includes my favorite beginner tools: an oblique holder, a straight holder, pot of black ink, nibs, washi tape, a pencil, practice grids, a tracing pad, and an alphabet exemplar.

I will be booking a couple more group classes later in the summer (July), but in the meantime, I’m open to scheduling private individual and private group classes. I think it would be such a fun bachelorette party for a group of friends wanting to do something a little different than the “typical” bachelorette events.

Sign up for the Ellie and Ace Class mailing list to be the first to know when new classes are added to the calendar!
